Auburn review

“For the recording of her 4th ‘Auburn’-album ‘Mixed Feelings’, British singer-songwriter Liz Lenten moved once more to Nashville, Tennessee where she was supported by the best local instrumentalists one can find. The fine result of that cooperation can be enjoyed on this excellent record full of brilliant and honest songs about life and all its emotions.“

In 2003 the band debuted with the album 'Dreams' and then the band disappeared for a while from the radar. Meanwhile, there have been working on new songs. Songs that saw the light in 2012 appeared on the 'Indian Summer'. A year later drew Liz and her musicians to Nashville, where she recorded the eponymous album, with producer and guitarist Thomm Jutz. In January this year Auburn traveled again to Nashville. Again, the band worked with Thomm Jutz, resulting in the 'Mixed Feelings'. On the title track, after which Liz wrote with Marc Gustavina, all songs from her hand. The songs balance between contemporary country, Americana and even pop. This Auburn will certainly not win the prize for originality. Where Liz and her companions who join can drag on hold, with Lentens voice. Liz has a very striking but above all very special voice timbre. Emotional, warm, sometimes raucous, but especially the almost continuous tremolo voice makes her special. That not everyone immediately falls for her voice is quite possible. On the other hand it ensures that Auburn is not itself as "dime a dozen". In the subdued 'Friends' Lentens gives voice a somewhat timid and melancholic impression. But also provide a contemporary, from catching on banjo fingerpicking, uptempo country song 'Hell Hath No Fury "Liz feels her sas. 'Out There' gets the twang guitar sound a fifties sound measured and the folky "Quiet Life" Lenten let her emotions run wild.

Who has a broad musical vision and is eager to discover new things can definitely go again consulted with the new Auburn.

What happens when you mix what is - arguably - the world's most interesting record company, with an anarchist manic-depressive rock music historian polymath, and a method of dissemination which means that a daily rock-music magazine can be almost instantaneous?

Most of this blog is related in some way to the music, books and films produced by Gonzo Multimedia, but the editor has a grasshopper mind and so also writes about all sorts of cultural issues which interest him, and which he hopes will interest you as well.
