Maybe it’s because everybody remembers Crosby and Young just a little bit more. And maybe it’s because, while everybody can sing along with “what’s that sound, everybody look what’s going down,” not many actually know the real name of the song or what band even created it. The name of the song is “For What It Is Worth” and Stephen Stills wrote it back when he was lead of a band called Buffalo Springfield (Neil Young was also in the band).
Stills became the first person ever inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice in the same night; in 1997 Buffalo Springfield and Crosby, Stills & Nash were both awarded the prestige. Stills denied most of these accolades, citing the fact Young didn’t make it to the ceremony that night as the reason for him being brought to the forefront.
“I must say, it was the fact that Neil didn’t show up,” Stills told radio.com at the end of last year about all the attention he received. “I didn’t quite understand why Neil declined to come. Nobody else gets away with this! It’s always astonished me. That’s why the Buffalo Springfield tour probably shan’t be repeated.”
