MERRELL FANKHAUSER & ED CASSIDY: Belgium review (translated)

Fankhauser - Cassidy Band : On The Blue Road
01/24/2014

Again a wonderful proof that the old people today still can come up with a beautiful blue full-length album .
Merrell Fankhauser guitar ( also check out the DVD talks ' Merrell Fankhauser : Tiki PT1 ' , ' Merrell Fankhauser : Rainbow Bridge Revisited "and" Merrell Fankhauser : Tiki PT2 ) met several times in the past two years ago, Spirit drummer Ed Cassidy but without really speaking to each other until the event is repeated somewhere in the nineties . Quickly grew between them a special friendship and plans for a CD were forged . But Fankhauser has more friends and John McEuen ( guitar - Nitty Gritty Dirt Band) , Pete Sears ( keys - Jefferson Starship ) , Larry Willey ( bass - MU ) , Bruce Clark ( harmonica ) , Leroy Richards and Keith Frasher ( bass ) , Art Dougall (drums ) , Larry Curtis ( guitar ) were all present in the studio to record it. gem
We get a mix of original songs and covers. With the covers Fankhauser knows all too surprised us the first time and with his own songs was just the same way.

'On The Blue Road ' is a fantastic mix of blues and rock , which we did undefined element that is also found in bands like MU , Spirit , Jefferson Starship and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. In the line-up we find Merrell's talented son Tim as lead vocal and guitar on " Further On Up The Road ' , '32 / 20 Blues ," " Long Ride " and " Possession Over Jugdement Day. Drummer Ed Cassidy of Spirit keeps the rhythm steady while John McEuen of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band some nice mandolin lines play on " Stolen Guitar Blues ," the song that Merrell and Cassidy wrote in response to the loss of Randy California's (Spirit ) Martin guitar .

" Brian Berry Blues " features riffs but it's all that and Ed Cassidy makes his 89th hear how he can beech ' Cassidy's Big Beat . " On the skins of his drum kit Larry Willey , on bass and vocals , finalizes the disc with the wonderful " Papa Told Me ." When last you will hear a short interview with the recently deceased drummer Ed Cassidy . He was , when he died , the oldest rock ' n ' roll drummer in the world .

Highlights for me at least were " Hot Night In Louisville ," " Goin 'Back To The Delta' , 'Stolen Guitar Blues " and especially " Voodoo In The Jungle ' .

In summary, this double CD that you will certainly not leave untouched. The blues is played in the well-known tradition. The blues lover will definitely purchase the CD after a first listen and add to his collection . Another proof that the 'older ' musicians still not been exhausted .

...BECAUSE SOME OF US THINK THAT THIS STUFF IS IMPORTANT
What happens when you mix what is - arguably - the world's most interesting record company, with an anarchist manic-depressive rock music historian polymath, and a method of dissemination which means that a daily rock-music magazine can be almost instantaneous?

Most of this blog is related in some way to the music, books and films produced by Gonzo Multimedia, but the editor has a grasshopper mind and so also writes about all sorts of cultural issues which interest him, and which he hopes will interest you as well.
