...BECAUSE SOME OF US THINK THAT THIS STUFF IS IMPORTANT
What happens when you mix what is - arguably - the world's most interesting record company, with an anarchist manic-depressive rock music historian polymath, and a method of dissemination which means that a daily rock-music magazine can be almost instantaneous?

Most of this blog is related in some way to the music, books and films produced by Gonzo Multimedia, but the editor has a grasshopper mind and so also writes about all sorts of cultural issues which interest him, and which he hopes will interest you as well.

PART OF MY LIFE IS GONE
S/HE IS NOT RETURNING
I have new emotions moving in now
and they are bringing their own furniture
If i evict them prematurely,i will never know them fully
If i do not go where they lead,i may never know them in me
If i simply allow them space, maybe they might teach me
how to live without a need to control(anything or anyone-
how to just be in a drowning dervish whirl-
dance with angels on the head of a pin
Please know i am emotion now.I do not resist/nor desist
Assimilation,integration are my allies
We seek the geography best via filtered feelings
Eye am not numb,dumb,nor dangerous
Eye am meditating, emoting, breathing my way through this
I do not know the end of this process
This may take all my lives
just to get through
the labyrinth
of losses

Vangelis and the Journey to Ithaka: Review

Vangelis And The Journey To Ithaka
(Gonzo Multimedia)
So I viewed the DVD Vangelis And The Journey To Ithaka the night it arrived in the mail. And then AGAIN the next day. That tells you something right there. If you know me, then one is aware that usually I have stacks of CDs and DVDs to check out (I'm not complaining...I write about several topics including pop culture) at any given time. For a DVD to come in the door and be made that night's entertainment, there HAS to be something to it. The bio pictures subject matter, Vangelis, is just that. A gentleman of incredible talent. One of the best keyboardists I had the pleasure of finding out about, and over time gotten to know his work. Not just a keyboardist. A composer. A multi-instrumentalist; drummer and percussionist. For those lucky enough to see him perform live, a showman like no other. One should be able to look up the word Vangelis and somewhere in the many definitions given, be told point blank just how cool this man is. And not because this author said so, which should be good enough, but because the man is talented in every essence of the word. This DVD,Vangelis And The Journey To Ithaka, explains very well as to why Vangelis epitomizes talent.

Vangelis: “Music is the strongest thing. Strong as oxygen and speaks directly to your soul.”

In all the time I've been a Vangelis fan, I have yet to see a documentary on the man. LONG overdue. Frankly, I've hardly ever seen anything on Vangelis regarding video clips. For me, my Vangelis collection isn't visual but audio with his music being found within my music CD or cassette collection. I believe my first recording of his to be Heaven And Hell (1975). What sparked my interest in him was a guest appearance on that album by Yes' Jon Anderson. Yes being one of my favorite bands for decades now. Oh...and Jon makes an appearance on this Vangelis documentary as well. Shares a lovely story about himself and Vangelis and The Top Of The Pops performance. Anderson always could spin a well-told story. Back to the documentary, frankly it's really the most I've ever seen of the man on film. It's also the most I've ever heard him speak. I find it all very delightful.

Vangelis: “Music is personal but painting is personal – very personal.”

JOEY MOLLAND: Danish Review (translated)

Excessive pop rock from a bad finger

If we are to be honest , it's probably not many people who today remembers British Badfinger , who published a couple of excellent albums on The Beatles' Apple company at the beginning of the seventies. This signature has been achieved at a certain joy of his old vinyl copy of the debut album Magic Christian Music from '70 and was not slow to put ticket into this new album from the group's old frontman when landing on the editorial board .

And there's something a bit cheap and maybe not so tasteful addition to the cover for Return to Memphis, however, there is not many fingers to put in the closet musician here on the 66-year-old veterans fourth album under his own name .

We speak firmly and securely pophåndværk in simple delivery; plate is the fruit of Molland's love for the historic Royal Studios in Memphis, Tennesse and four Memphis musicians (and an equal number of chorus girls ) follows the fine carvings as All I Ever Dreamed , Hero and Walk Out in the Rain through. Habilt crafts, which also hit the stores, while the old Badfinger number Baby Blue enjoying new success as part of the soundtrack for the TV series Breaking Bad.

CRYSTAL GRENADE: US Review

(Crystal Grenade)
Label(s):
Genre:
Release Date:
Tuesday, October 22, 2013
Grade:
A+
Format:
LP
Tracks:
11

Crystal Grenade is Carol Hodge, a journeywoman of music, having arrived here after playing roles in bands like Synko, Sadie Hawkins Dance, Electra Glide, Bad Taste Barbies, etc. Her style has evolved through her previous bands to this conglomeration of sounds that are reminiscent of Fiona Apple, The Dresden Dolls, and the witty bitter lyrical edge of Alanis Morrisette.

The music on Lo and Behold ranges from light to dark. Hodge provides vocals that are clean, jazz and blues like influenced (with edge), and lyrics that are straightforward either with honey or vinegar. That’s what I liked most about this album really. The fact that the lyrics are anti-“girl with a piano.” This is so far removed from say, Kelly Clarkson, whose albums seem to fall stagnated on love and bad relationship songs. Hodge simply states in Changed, “You’re not what I want anymore”, continuing on like one of those bad beak ups where the final reason is “It’s not you it’s me”. Basically, Hodge doesn’t write songs about being a victim.

Usually I find myself a little turned off by female singer/songwriters and their piano’s. It always seems like different artists using this formula are always going in the same direction. Hodge really separates herself both with lyrics that don’t fall under the norm and also by allowing her piano to be more theatrical rather then slow, sad, and light to match the depressing recycled themes of love. Hodge’s piano playing can be light, but for the most part it has a dark ominous feel to its style, which kind of shines a light on Hodge’s personality and the way that they manifest in words. It’s says, “You don’t know what you’re going to get”. Well worth checking out.

BLODWYN PIG US Review

Blodwyn Pig Pigthology

Blodwyn Pig was a heavy, blues-rock band from the UK during the late ‘60s. Perhaps most famous for featuring future Jethro Tull guitarist Mick Abrahams, the band also traveled in the same circles as Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd and other heavies. Given today’s fascination with the era, and a slew of new bands emulating the loud, bluesy riffs and acidic haze of the scene, I thought it a perfect addition to this installment.

This comp features a clutch of outtakes and unreleased tracks, plus some recent remasters. While the tracks lack the sheen of a polished studio offering, you can really hear everything—from the up-front vocals in the mix, to the jazzy, sometimes proggy instrumentation. “Stormy Monday” sounds especially vivid, showcasing Abrahams’ considerable knack for tasty licks, while “See My Way” is strange, catchy and cool, so much so, that it was covered by Joey Ramone many years later. BLODWYN PIG - Polish review (translated)

Blodwyn Pig - Pigthology

Author: Arthur Chachlowski
19/12/2013.

The legend of the British blues rock releases a new album! But "Pigthology" is not a new set of new songs the group, and a compilation of unreleased on CD recordings, live tracks, and re-mastered version of the most famous hits in the achievements of Blodwyn Pig, such as, among others, "Dear Jill", "See My Way" and "Drive Me".

Blodwyn Pig Group was founded in 1968 by guitarist Mick Abrahams, after he left the band Jethro Tull, just after his spectacular debut, "This Was". Abraham, with Jack Lancaster (saxophone, flute, violin), Andy dust (bass) and Ron Berg (drums) - later replaced it with a known Jethro Tull, Clive Bunker - recorded two CDs: "Ahead Rings Out" (1969) and "Getting To This" (1970), and then ... solved Blodwyn Pig.

This formation, in various configurations personal, but always with Abraham and Lancaster in the composition, repeatedly returned to active operations, which in the 90s the last century has resulted in two consecutive plates: "Lies" (1993) and "Pig-in-the-middle" (1996). Then, there has been a renaissance popularity Blodwyn Pig.Perhaps not necessarily because of those two albums, and thanks to the song "Dear Jill" in the hugely popular film "Almost Famous" Cameron Crowe.

Released this year by the branch Gonzo Multimedia, label Squirrel Music , CD "Pigthology" is an attempt to re-deserved reminder of the achievements of the British rock group, which at one time were placed on a par with The Moody Blues, The Who, Family and Joe Cocker Free - artists with whom, incidentally, Blodwyn Pig performed at the legendary Isle Of Wight Festival in 1969. On this album we find 12 unique tracks, which will certainly prove to be a large demand bluesrockowej good music. For sure it will restore the memory of the forgotten little longer formation, and for cast-wishers creativity Blodwyn Pig, at least in some cases, may prove to be a big surprise. "In appearing on this compilation version of the song" Baby Girl "Mick Abrahams plays the piano. The concert performance of "Cosmogrification", which we recorded in Luton in 1973 and the drums played Clive Bunker, who replaced a sick Rona Berg. In turn, "Moonkinit" I play the piano. I say this because in our compositions usually did not use keyboards "- explains Jack Lancaster. Such trivia is indeed on the album more. As you can see, "Pigthology" has a chance to become a real white raven and the object of desire of all the fans of this team.

In a little over a year,  Sky Architect imposed its progressive rock signing through two albums references.Maintaining a high write rate, the Dutch returned with an "A Billion Years Of Solitude" whose cover, very close to that of "A Dying Man's Hymn", suggests that this new album is a continuation of previous inspiration from science fiction and more. On the space-rock dimension doubt, hyperactive quintet literally invested in this environment that surrounds much of the disc. The introduction of more than three minutes the aptly named 'The Curious One' sounds like the soundtrack of a "2101-The Voyage of the Cosmos" with this suffocating atmosphere and the eerie sound effects.Architect Sky revives very long pieces but unlike 'Deep Chasm' travel is stirred and stunning, mainly because of its convoluted structure and its dark tone. The piece develops a theme song to identically repeated and interspersed with wide dynamic atmospheric or instrumental sequences. If Sky Architect shows boldness in the way of architecting this imposing title remains timid in melodies and vocal harmonies rather easy not at the old compositions.
The Dutch are more inspired and familiar in short pieces of "A Billion Years Of Solitude" as' wormholes', 'Tides' or too short instrumental' Jim's Ride To Hell. The heavy-prog psychedelic and space-rock resume cohabitation in the beautiful 'Elegy Of A Solitary Giant' and crazy 'Revolutions' (which proves, even if the demonstration is more to do, the technical ease of young Batavian) but this time the balance and cohesion among a much richer vocals and diverse instrumental passages are controlled. Final Album 'Traveler's Last Candle is a chiaroscuro jubilant and virtuosic form of a looping ethereal atmospheric sequences and powerful projections and convulsed, punctuated by a great chorus Wabe Wieringa.
The first piece of "A Billion Years Of Solitude" does not facilitate immersion in this production, again dense and complex. The abandonment of jazz and Latin elements, providers of life-saving fresh for listening, reinforces the gravity and the opacity rule over the entire disk. More than for "Excavations Of The Mind" and "A Dying Man's Hymn" the auditor will be patient before they totally abandon this challenging and exciting work. More information on http://www. skyarchitect.com /

GREAT WAR 2014
MY GRANDFATHER WAS AN ARMY COOK IN CAIRO
He sent us mortar shell casings-ornamental on our shelves
He and his whole generation long buried .Gone, forgotten
Great mistakes made.Gas attacks.Cavalry against tanks.
Whole navies sank .Too many young cannon fodder-
fighting in the tactics of the Last War.A century later
all is black and white(newsreels)/poor photography.
We still suffer gas attacks.Still war when wanted.
Time has simply mutated modes of mass killing
to terrorist bomb attacks and random massacres.
Knowledge does not change us.Wars waste us.

It was never "Great".Millions of white crosses.Silenced.
