Chris Thompson - Berlin Live & Live At Colos-Saal (Gonzo Multimedia) ****

Chris Thompson
is a former vocalist for Manfred Mann's Earth Band. His signature voice can still be heard on the radio just about every day. You may not know the name, but for sure the voice will sound very familiar. This set is a live recording from a recent Chris Thompson solo tour. It's a very exquisite set. Not only do you get the complete version of the concert on two CDs, but there is also accompanying DVD, supplying the visual format. In fact, you get two different shows. The CDs come from the Berlin concerts, where as the DVD was filmed in Achaffenburg. In other words, as if you were there.

Chris Thompson really gives the fans what they want to hear, the hits he's known for from the Manfred Mann's Earth Band. And Germany was always a hot market for the band, so he's really playing to a dedicated audience. His voice is still in fantastic shape, and he's nailing every note at ease. Hearing all of these songs together it's hard to believe how impressive the classic MMEB was. The band is still continuing without Thompson, with rotating cast of vocalists.

Both shows here have an incredible atmosphere. The crowd is really into music, and this energy really transforms the performance into something special. This release makes a lot of sense. There is magic here, and it's not just another throwaway live album. Also, it's good to see that Chris Thompson is still active, as his profile in America is non-existent. Fantastic set of shows that can be relieved over and over.

...BECAUSE SOME OF US THINK THAT THIS STUFF IS IMPORTANT
What happens when you mix what is - arguably - the world's most interesting record company, with an anarchist manic-depressive rock music historian polymath, and a method of dissemination which means that a daily rock-music magazine can be almost instantaneous?

Most of this blog is related in some way to the music, books and films produced by Gonzo Multimedia, but the editor has a grasshopper mind and so also writes about all sorts of cultural issues which interest him, and which he hopes will interest you as well.
