RICK WAKEMAN at MIRC 2012

Around 280 UK retailers attended the third MI Retail Conference and Expo (MIRC) at The Brewery in the Barbican, London last week, where there was a significant showing from the pro-audio industry.

Audio-Technica, Bosch, FBT Audio UK, Monacor, and Roland (who hosted the after show drinks reception) were among the pro-audio manufacturers and distributors represented at the event, presented in association with the Frankfurt musikmesse.

A busy day comprised a morning of seminars and panel discussions, followed by an afternoon of product expos with breakout sessions. Winning particular plaudits in the conference section was John Straw’s pithy seminar on increasing web traffic.

The morning was finessed by a keynote presentation from Rick Wakeman (pictured), acclaimed keyboardist with Yes, and more recently, ‘Grumpy Old Man’ and frequent game-show panelist. Amid musings from his long career, Wakeman emphasised the importance of encouraging budding musicians to enter music shops and trial new instruments.
