...BECAUSE SOME OF US THINK THAT THIS STUFF IS IMPORTANT
What happens when you mix what is - arguably - the world's most interesting record company, with an anarchist manic-depressive rock music historian polymath, and a method of dissemination which means that a daily rock-music magazine can be almost instantaneous?

Most of this blog is related in some way to the music, books and films produced by Gonzo Multimedia, but the editor has a grasshopper mind and so also writes about all sorts of cultural issues which interest him, and which he hopes will interest you as well.

August 26, 2011 Lewiston Idaho: Hot August Nights at Pioneer Park

Bouillet made his name playing explosive, yet precise melodic guitar with Racer X and The Scream. Later he formed Epidemic, touring with acts including Nickelback and Seether. In 2005, Bouillet won a Grammy® award for his production work with Motorhead. He also works with Paul Gilbert, with whom he recently toured as part of G3, along with with Joe Satriani and John Petrucci. He has just finished his third solo instrumental album.

Bruce is now working with the band in the studio on their upcoming album “Americana”. “The band and myself are excited to welcome our good friend Bruce and look forward to a new chapter for us all,” remarked John Payne.

The ASIA Featuring John Payne lineup is:

John Payne (lead vocals, bass)

Bruce Bouillet (guitars, backing vocals)

Erik Norlander (keyboards, backing vocals)

Jay Schellen (drums, backing vocals)

John Payne became the frontman of the supergroup ASIA in 1992 at the invitation of keyboardist Geoff Downes, replacing vocalist/bassist John Wetton. With John Payne fronting the band, ASIA released 8 stunning studio albums, several live albums, a live DVD and toured the world extensively for 14 years.

In 2006, Geoff Downes left the band to reform the 1982 line up for their 25th anniversary. On the 9th of May 2006, John Payne, Geoff Downes, John Wetton, Carl Palmer and Steve Howe contractually agreed that John Payne would continue his 14 year legacy with ASIA as “ASIA Featuring John Payne”.

ASIA Featuring John Payne have been touring in North America since 2008, with noted keyboardist Erik Norlander and progressive rock drummer Jay Schellen. In 2009 the band released an EP entitled “Military Man”. A new studio album entitled “Americana” is planned for release in 2011.

The concert was introduced by Bob Harris. The following year the band reformed again and the result was a double Live album entitled To The Urban Man

Fish Live In Dalkeith

Fish has been enjoying more acoustic dates playing in both the UK and Europe with Foss Paterson on keyboards and Frank Usher on guitar.
last night (4th August) it was a home town gig for Fish as he played in Dalkeith
Gonzo MD Rob Ayling was there and took the photo at the top of this entry.

Rob said
"It is always a pleasure seeing Fish perform and last night was no different. The acoustic set up really sounds great and Fish is singing better than ever in my opinion. The highlight for me was Torch Song and A Gentleman's Excuse Me although it was great to hear Jumpsuit City from the Suits album which was quite evocative for me as Suits was the first Fish album I worked on with Fish and I personally think that Suits is one of Fish's most underrated albums."

"Electric Man" Scottish Independent Film Starring Fish

The trailer for Electric Man, the Edinburgh-set comedy about two comic book store workers who discover the first issue of rare comic in their shop, has been released.

Filmed over four weeks around the city, Electric Man stars former Marillion front man, Fish, alongside a cast of newcomers. Although set in the world of comics, co-writer Scott Mackay was keen to point out that it isn’t targeted at any one demographic:

“Because it’s about comics, initially you might think that it would only have a male audience. But because it’s not about superheroes, and there are relationships and the characters change over the course of the film, with story arcs for each of the characters, we hope it might reach a wider audience.”

You can find more details about the film here

Gonzo MD Rob Ayling and Son Hunter attend Electric Man Preview

Electric Man is a new scottish independent film which featured the acting talents of Fish. In the film Fish plays the bad guy "Uncle Jimmy". Rob asked Fish what he thought of the finished film he said "its a fun wee film"

Rob Ayling confirms this to be true. Hunter enjoyed it too. . . .
